A bawn is the defensive wall surrounding an Irish tower house. It is the anglicised version of the Irish word bábhún (sometimes spelled badhúbadhún), possibly meaning “cattle-stronghold” or “cattle-enclosure”.

‘More’ is the english of the Irish word ‘Mór’, meaning big or large.

Possibly derived from An Bhawn Mór – a big cattle enclosure at one point or an enclosed large farm.
